Honestly, people need to stop bringing up "it might be a friend". None of us would say to someone else, "Hey my account is --- and password is ---". C'mon. He would know if he "slipped" and told someone else.

Is your account tied into PlayNC? I'm just wondering because a lot of accounts seem to be hacked when they are set up this way as of recently...

As for why he didn't take everything, here's what I think:

This is one guy that has been getting on other's accounts and taking their money and such. The reason he didn't take everything from you is he might believe it will make him less likely to get caught.

Am I right to assume Anet tracks trade logs? Because trading 50k is not as noticeable as trading say 200k worth of stuff or more. Maybe he is trying to not get caught and continue to hack others...

I can't really think of any other reason other than he's trying to not get caught doing this by doing minimal trades.

I posted this last night on a similar thread. Seems eerily similar. I've never given my password to anyone. I'm quite confused how someone could have gotten it. I filed a report on support. Only 61 ecto and 23 shards were stolen - rubies, sapphires, onyx, diamonds, dye, cash, items and armor all seem to be unaffected. My theory is that someone has a lot of names and is in a hurry to just gank quick items, like a real life robber would go for laptops, ipods, loose cash etc.

Too bad the password guesser won't get mine. I left my comp AFK for a week on vacation w/ a password guesser on my account trying to log in. Came back, no success. As in >10 random # and letters = pwnage

But I have the ultimate solution for people w/ their own computers. Leave your account logged in

Why would someone "hack" into your account and leave these? I'd think they'd clear it all out...so, a hacker with a semi-guilty concious?

Op should probably get in touch with Kyosuke(the other one who made a recent account hacked thread) and compare notes on what they have been doing and have in common, if this is really an issue.

Until then, I'm just gonna go on in the belief that some GM removed your RMT'ed gold/ectos/dyes and forgot to add a temp ban to the account.

ectos and dyes. What do they have in common? They can be stacked. Perhaps stackable items don't have unique id's when they are stacked, thus can't be tracked, thus hacker can't be discovered.

Someone stealing torm weap, rare minis, crysts, etc could probably be followed. Maybe the hackers are getting smart how not to get caught.

and that has a tendency to crash my computer as well----
cant leave it on all the time with gw running....if I tried to play after that long of an interval (say I was sleeping) my whole computer would just freeze, the sound and vid cards would freak out and it would end with me pushing the on/off button (this happens sometimes anyways).

so we need to figure out what the victims have in common....so far probably their gw account linked to the dumb ncsoft easy-to-break-into one....and they have ecto and black dye and money......(so that leaves me out).

still gives me a queasy feeling since much of the 'preventative' stuff suggested is a bit late for many....

Just want to say that I was hacked/cracked a few months back. And I can honestly say I to this day don't know how it happened. I really don't care what some people say about "you told a friend, you used bots, you bought gold" because I know those things are not true. I know my internet security is extremely up-to-date and that my internet behavior is not risky (don't visit gold sellers etc.) and that my password was strong and only known to me. To be frank, if I can be hacked, then anyone can.

Hacking gaming accounts is big business, grossing a lot of $$$. So is it so hard to believe that some crackers who do this for a living all day every day are able to stay ahead of the curve? Lets be honest, security holes are often plugged AFTER something happen to alert to their existence. (GG mallyx cheat).
